A commentary by Carter Johnson:
Sally and I were in the same boat that we used for the Water Tribe (The Flying Ama). We set the mixed record (only 15 mins slower then the course record) and won the sprint start, but after 13 hours of paddleing, came in 20 seconds behind the double male tandem team of multi 1st place Texas Water Safari winners Richard Steppe and John Batzell paddling the famous 27 foot long "Steppe Missile" .
These two realy put us in a world of pain though and I truly doubt they would have let us ever pass them up even if we were faster. OOHH AHH OUCH!! My entire body is still numb. One of these days, I am hoping to re-gain feeling in my toes :) There is alot to learn from this group. They could reload water, chug an energy drink and puch their card in less than 20 seconds. I felt like I was in kindergarden watching PHD's.
The Texans are truly outstanding people and very fun to hang out with. I truly enjoy their company. I also have been pushing this race as an entry to a multi day kayak adventure racing.
The 2007 Colorado River 100 starts on September 1.
