2006 Missouri River 340 Race - River Scenes from Kaw Point to Franklin Island

After showing some snapshots from the start of the 2006 Missouri River 340 Race it is time to look at pictures from the river. This selection of 14 pictures covers the first two days of the race up to sunset below the Franklin Island.

Some highlights:

  • 1st day: very hot, getting comfortable in my boat and the river, reached Weaverly before sunset
  • 1st night: intense thunderstorms; hanging on a shore during storms, a little bit of sleep under emergency blanket, arrived pretty wet and cold to Miami just before sunrise
  • 2nd day: much cooler after storms, windy in the afternoon; a shower and lunch at Glasgow, reached Coopers Landing around midnight
  • Except fellow MR340 racers I have not seen a single paddling craft on the river. No barge traffic.
I was shooting with Pentax Optio W10. Connie was using Canon PowerShot S40. The next photo post from this series will cover the race from Coopers Landing to the finish at St Charles.
