2007 Missouri River 340 Race in Pictures: 1. Kayaks and Canoes Starting at the Kaw Point

The second Missouri River 340 Race start at 8:00 am on July 24th at the Kaw Point. Over 70 kayaks and canoes launched at the confluence of Kansas and Missouri Rivers at Kansas City for the 340 mile journey down the Missouri to St Charles.

The first dozen of pictures cover the race start. I shot them with Pentax Optio W10 before launching my Thunderbolt kayak at 7:40. A couple of more pictures were shot from water just minutes before the race start. Three last images of the mass start were made by Connie from a high shore.

In the next couple of posts you will find more pictures from the river, then, from the race finish at St Charles, and, maybe, something from our return trip to Colorado.

I am experimenting with somewhat different way to present pictures. Thumbnails in this post are not just reduced versions of full size (i.e., 450x600 pixels) pictures, but they represent different cropping as well. It may be a small detail from the larger image. Sometimes, that detail or abstract is more interesting to me than more busy larger version. Anyway, you really need to click thumbnails to see the entire picture story.
