2007 Missouri River 340 Race in Pictures: 3. Cooper's Landing to St Charles

The first dozen of our pictures from the MR-340 covered the race start at the Kaw Point. In the second one we followed the race from Kansas City to just above the Cooper's Landing. The third dozen come from the lower part of the race course.

After a nice sunset photo session at the Cooper's Landing my pictures were getting more scarce. I was obviously preoccupied with my sinking kayak. However, I got some pictures of high river cliffs around Hermann. It was first time when I saw them. Last year I paddled that river stretch at night.

Last year I saw only one barge on the river due to low water, while this year the barges were a hot subject. I met barges only during daytime and all them were running upstream. I didn't shoot any pictures of barges during the race. I was just paddling too far away from them. The last picture shown in this post was shot during our trip home near the Clarksville lock on the Mississippi River.

The collision of tandem outrigger canoe with a barge between Portland and Hermann will certainly stick into this year race history. Here is what happened in the words of Wayne and Ann on RiverMiles.com forum. They are fine back in California and have a new boat on order.
