The South Dakota Kayak Challenge, September 11-13, 2009

The course and date of the South Dakota race on the Missouri River have been set. September 11-13, 2009. Race begins at Bob’s Resort, just north of the State Highway 212 bridge on the Missouri River in north-central South Dakota and continues to the face of the Oahe Dam.

… from Jarett Bies:

The route is about 80 miles of big water, in some places the river is more than two miles wide.

This race is not for the meek: Winds will create large waves, the shores are barren and snake-filled, but the scenery is one-of-a-kind and this new race will challenge any and all who will battle the big waters of Oahe. Racers will paddle through the confluence of the Cheyenne and Missouri Rivers at “Little Bend” and thus face all that comes with the junction of two waterways.

I will post more details when available. I understand that the race website is under development.
