Missouri River 340 Race – 3 Years Perspective

Missouri River sunrise

In 2009 after 3 first editions of the MR340 Race I managed to gather some thoughts from different paddlers about their experience from racing across the state of Missouri:

I believe that this mini series provides some good information and insights for beginners and paddlers who are thinking about participating in MR340. And some good memories for veterans. There are some risks in participation in the endurance river events like MR340. And, one of them is that it may be addictive! Let’s quote Katie:

After the first MR340 at the age of 21, I initially thought it was a one-time deal. No need to do it again. Then I started thinking of the small changes I would make IF I were to do the race again…Someday.

Maybe I could shave off an hour here and there. I got really inspired about all the people who became increasingly fascinated with the race and very excited about doing it themselves. It was rare to be going into the second year as a veteran. So, I gave myself the opportunity to give it another shot and see if I improved over a year’s time.

If you would like to share your MR340 story my blog is open for guest posts. Or, you can write something more informal in comments below. In the original series I suggested the following structure, but any format is welcome:

  • personal development as a racer
  • different boats and teams
  • river and weather conditions
  • MR340 growth and development
  • MR340 paddled
