Self Shuttle by Amtrak during Missouri River 340 Race

I run the 2010 Missouri River Race fully self supported including a shuttle. I finished the race as planned below 60 hours and, following day, I took Amtrak (Missouri River Runner) from St Louis to Kansas City. I could still see some canoes paddling downstream of Hermann. The entire shuttle operation went pretty smoothly. Here is a time line of my race and shuttle.

Do you have any other idea for self shuttle during the MR340 race? For this year I wanted to attend the award ceremony. Anything including bike would be cool. I am not sure what is the status of bike trail connections between Katy Trail and Kansas City.

  1. Assume that your two rest stops were Glasgow and Hermann. Did you need to secure the boat at the finish? Did you cab to St. Louis because there wasn’t a stop near the Country Inn?

    Congrats on a great finish.

  2. Glasgow and Herman were my rest/sleeping stops. I was stopping at other checkpoints just to buy water and food and tried not to stay there longer than 10 minutes.

There is no problem with leaving a boat at the race finish till the end of the race, i.e., Friday night.

St Louis Amtrak station is the closest one to St Charles (~20 miles, mostly freeway driving). There is another Amtrak station (first stop after St Louis in Kansas City direction). It may be a comparable distance from St Charles.

  3. Just a thought, you could take the amtrak at Kirkwood, or save some money and take the Metrolink from Stl Louis Airport to the Amtrack station. This year let me know and I will drive you back to the Start Point so you dont have to walk from the hotel. Was in “Hello Moose” last year.
